Evolve Mechanical Solutions was retained to review the state of the existing kitchen exhaust fan for a commercial kitchen in Vancouver. Some major NFPA-96 code violations were discovered and below is a picture and a description of the NFPA code references.

4.2.1 ..Exhaust fans, and ducts shall have a clearance of at least 457 mm (18 in.) to combustible material

6.2.4.3 Grease drip trays shall be pitched to drain into an enclosed metal container (Grease cup) having a capacity not exceeding 3.8 L (1 gal).

7.8.3 Wall terminations shall be arranged with or provided with the following properties… (2) The closest point of any air intake or operable door or window above the plane of the exhaust termination shall be a minimum of 3 m (10 ft) in distance…
